The collection contains a speech by Duncan McDonald. The speech contains McDonald’s recollections and knowledge on Native Americans, the National Bison Range, Missoula and Native American mythology. McDonald gave the speech to an audience at the University of Montana Auditorium on February 22, 1915.

Duncan McDonald was born at Fort Connah, on Post Creek, a tributary of the Flathead River, in what is now Montana, in March 1849. He was the son of Angus McDonald, post trader for the Hudson's Bay Company, and a Nez Percé woman whose name is unknown. Duncan was an authority on Nez Percé and Selish tribal history.
